In January 2026, The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) started using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model to handle prior authorization for certain procedures under traditional Medicare – a move that led to unnecessary delays and denials of care for seniors.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer for women in the United States. About 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. For women enrolled in Medicaid, many screening mammograms are covered, but they can still face out-of-pocket costs for follow-up diagnostic exams and supplemental imaging.

Congressman Landsman and Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) introduced the bipartisan Saving Seniors Money on Prescriptions Act in February 2025 to help lower the costs of prescription drugs for seniors covered by Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage by increasing oversight of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs).
