Landsman to Trump: Workers Need Relief Now, Make Billionaires Cover Cost

Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) introduced legislation to put money directly into the pockets of working families – paid for by billionaires.

President Trump’s policies have made life harder for working Americans who are already struggling to make ends meet. To provide relief, Landsman introduced the Working Americans Affordability Tax Credit Act – legislation to provide a monthly affordability tax credit check to every working American tax filer making less than $100,000. It would be funded by requiring the super-wealthy to finally pay a minimum tax.

The Working Americans Affordability Tax Credit Act would:

• Provide a monthly refundable tax credit totaling up to $4,200 annually.
• Implement a Billionaire Income Tax Act to ensure households worth over $100 million pay at least a 20 percent tax rate on their full income, including unrealized gains.

Landsman’s plan would deliver roughly $300 a month to the average Ohio household.

“While Trump tries to bribe voters with an empty promise of a $5,000 check, our plan would put cash directly into the pockets of hardworking Americans – and it would be funded by the super-wealthy beginning to pay all of their taxes. If Trump were serious about helping folks, he would tell Congressional Republicans to support an effort like ours – one that would provide meaningful relief to working families and begins to fix the broken tax system.”
