Landsman, Van Hollen, Mfume, Beyer Lead Letter to Protect Federal Workers
Cincinnati, OH – This week, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH), Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Congressman Kweisi Mfume (D-MD), and Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) sent a letter to the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC) opposing a proposed rule to overhaul the federal employee complaint process.
The EEOC is proposing a rule change to eliminate protections and strip federal employees of critical civil rights in discrimination complaints.
In response, Landsman, Van Hollen, Mfume, and Beyer – along with 79 colleagues – are calling on EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas to rescind the proposed rule.
The letter argues the change will make it harder for workers to challenge workplace discrimination or retaliation and weaken important protections and enforcement. It urges the EEOC to withdraw the proposed rule and work with Congress on reforms to make the federal-sector EEOC process fairer and faster.
