Congressman Landsman Statement on House Speaker Vote

The majority of the House wants a bipartisan Speaker. Yet, House Republicans are on the verge of voting for Trump’s January 6th partner in crime.

Every House Democrat wants a bipartisan Republican Speaker. We tried with McCarthy. Inexplicably, he didn’t want to work with us. Most moderate Republicans I talk with don’t want Jordan. They’ve said it to me, and they voted that way last week behind closed doors.

Yet the people who tried to overthrow our government on Jan 6 are now moments away from taking over the House.

How is this even possible? Trump, Hannity, and Fox News have told Republican moderates that this is what they want, never mind what the American people want or what the country and the world needs.

America wants and needs its government funded. The world needs our help in Ukraine and Israel. For them, Trump comes first though.

Not us. We’ll keep fighting, and the tides will turn. We’ll get our democracy and freedoms back.
