Landsman Cosponsors Bipartisan Background Checks, Assault Weapons Ban, and Ethan’s Law Legislation
Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01) released the following statement announcing he has signed on as a cosponsor of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, Assault Weapons Ban, and Ethan’s Law.
“All across America, our schools, grocery stores, family parties, and neighborhood sidewalks are becoming scenes of horrific violence.
“We desperately need commonsense reforms to keep weapons of war off our streets and prevent criminals from getting their hands on guns in the first place.
“Democrats and Republicans agree we need a change, and I’m proud to join these bipartisan bills that will help tackle gun violence and save lives.”
The Bipartisan Background Checks Act would require that every sale of a firearm include a background check while allowing some exemptions for family transfers and temporary hunting transfers. The Assault Weapons Ban would prohibit the sale, transfer, manufacture, and importation of semiautomatic weapons and ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than fifteen rounds, while protecting hunting and sporting rifles and assault weapons used by members of the military and law enforcement. Ethan’s Law would require gun owners to store their firearms in a secure gun storage or safety device if a minor is likely access it without permission, or if a resident of the home cannot legally possess a firearm under existing law. Last Congress, the Assault Weapons Ban the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and Ethan’s Law passed the House with bipartisan support.
