Cincinnati, OH – Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08) led a letter to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) demanding answers around the Trump Administration’s proposal to force all federal employees to sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA).
In a letter to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor, Reps. Landsman and Krishnamoorthi – along with 42 other Democratic members of Congress – raise concerns that the proposed rule is a tactic to silence federal employees and hide government corruption from Americans.
The members argue a government-wide, mandatory NDA will only block lawful whistleblowing and undermine government transparency and accountability.
The letter reads, in part:
“The proposed rule is nothing more than another attempt to intimidate, silence, politicize, and demolish the federal workforce, and hide this Administration’s waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption from the American people…
“Forcing all federal workers to sign indefinite and vague NDAs is illegal and unacceptable. We urge OPM to listen to the serious concerns raised during the public comment period of this rule, and reverse course immediately.”
The member’s letter is endorsed by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU).
