Landsman Leads Bipartisan Letter to Further Sanctions on Russian Oil Companies involved in the Abduction of Children from Ukraine

Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH) and the four co-chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus sent a bipartisan letter to the U.S. Secretary of State and Treasury Secretary calling on the Administration to hold Russian companies accountable for their involvement in the abduction of children from Ukraine.

President Trump’s 30-day waiver on Russian oil sanctions was framed as an effort to bring down global oil prices. Recent reporting shows two Russian energy companies – Gazprom and Rosneft – benefiting from these U.S. waivers are directly involved in Vladimir Putin’s abduction of more than 35,000 children from Ukraine. This will result in approximately $12 billion of revenue for the two Russian state-owned oil companies.

Congressman Landsman, along with a bipartisan group of 13 members of Congress, sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent calling for the immediate reinstatement of sanctions against Gazprom and Rosneft, as well as sanctions against all entities and individuals associated and involved in the abduction of Ukrainian kids.

Congressman Landsman’s letter reads, in part:

“We urge you to immediately end this sanctions waiver to ensure the American consumer is no longer indirectly bankrolling such appalling war crimes…

“We urge you to sanction the 35 entities and individuals currently unsanctioned by the United States or Europe associated with Gazprom and Rosneft that Yale HRL assesses with high confidence are directly involved in the abduction, relocation, internment, brainwashing, and military training of children from Ukraine.

“Every day that Ukrainian children stolen from their homes remain in Russia, they are at greater risk of being lost in Dictator Vladimir Putin’s authoritarian system for the rest of their lives.

“It is an unconscionable crime, and one that the United States must take every measure to halt and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
