Landsman Statement After 26 Hour Debate on Republican Proposal to Cut Billions in Healthcare
Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) released the following statement after spending more than 26 hours in the House Energy and Commerce Committee debating a Congressional Republicans’ budget plan, which will strip healthcare from millions:
Congressional Republicans were given an assignment to find nearly a trillion dollars to pay for tax cuts that primarily benefit the super wealthy and big corporations.
We should be expanding healthcare, not cutting it. We spent 26 hours fighting, throughout the night, these devastating healthcare cuts. We need to fix our economy, which has been broken for decades, by fixing the tax code, making the super wealthy pay all of their taxes like the rest of us, and investing in working families – including their healthcare.
My hope is that the Majority will not have the votes to pass this truly problematic budget. That will force them to work with us on a bipartisan budget that provides tax relief to everyone who needs it while protecting everyone’s healthcare. If this budget passes, thousands of families in Southwest Ohio will lose their healthcare.
No one should lose their healthcare.
