Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH-01) released the following statement after a synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi was burned in an arson attack:

Mississippi’s largest synagogue was set on fire this weekend. It was bombed by the KKK in 1967 for fighting segregation in the state.

Like so many Jewish communities across the country, Beth Israel in Jackson must confront the horrors of raging antisemitism here and around the world. Most of it doesn’t make national news – besides a passing headline or story.

Know that Jews have always been the target of hate. That hate is surging. Unfortunately, this is our history. It repeats itself, over and over and over. It stops when everyone stops arguing over what is and isn’t antisemitism – and rejects all of it, no matter what. Please.

As a friend reminded me today, everyone needs to be kinder and more loving to one another. This is what is required of us right now – to lead with kindness and love.
