Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (OH-01) released the following statement after the House passed H.R.82 – the Social Security Fairness Act:

The House passed the Social Security Fairness Act, ensuring more than 160,000 Ohio educators, police officers, letter carriers, and other public retirees receive the full benefits they’ve earned & paid into. Now it’s onto the Senate to make it law.

Background:

The Social Security Fairness Act is commonsense, bipartisan legislation that has been cosponsored by 330 members of the House and would repeal two Social Security provisions – the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset – which unfairly penalizes public employees who paid into public retirement pensions but who also worked in the private sector and paid into Social Security.

The Social Security Fairness Act would ensure that the more than two million public retirees whose Social Security benefits are currently reduced by these two provisions would receive the full Social Security benefits they are owed.
