Landsman Passes First Bipartisan Bill This Congress to Increase Foreign Investment in the U.S. Semiconductor Industry
Cincinnati, OH – Today, Congressman Greg Landsman (D-OH) announced the bipartisan Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
In March, Congressman Landsman and Congressman Cliff Bentz (R-OR-02) introduced H.R.2480 – the Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act – bipartisan legislation that would direct – SelectUSA – a program of the U.S. Department of Commerce – to work with state-level economic development organizations to develop strategies to attract investment from foreign allies in the U.S. semiconductor industry. The SelectUSA program was established in 2011 to strengthen federal efforts to attract job-creating business investments to the U.S. and support American companies. Congressman Landsman and Congressman Bentz’ legislation would help address the ongoing semiconductor shortage that has disrupted multiple industries in recent years.
The Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee in a bipartisan vote earlier this month. The Senate version of the legislation was introduced by Senator Gary Peters in March.
Congressman Landsman:
“Semiconductors are the backbone of nearly all modern electronics, and the U.S. cannot rely on foreign nations to manufacture our chips any longer. This commonsense and bipartisan legislation will help attract investment to American companies and strengthen our domestic industries and supply chains.”
